You get about 70% of your stopping power from your front. It's very easy to lock up the rear even with rim brakes so it makes more sense to have discs at the front first. You shouldn't be consistently using your rear brake on trails either because you're causing skid marks. And if you do it on concrete, you make marks on the concrete and also destroy your tire pretty quick.
