3-Speed Master Link Removal Weirdness

I've attached pics of the master link on a Columbia 3-Speed Tourist, unknown mfg. date. The pics illustrate the problem.

The master link has the usual rigid plate with rivets on one side, but a sliding plate on the other side instead of the open-ended clip. The plate appears to be the type that requires the bushings and pins to be squeezed together, but the pins are rigid. How do I get this off?

The rigid side says "W Germany." The removable plate side says "Made In Formosa" so there is mix and match weirdness. I may just pop the chain out and put in a new one.

Any advice?
