I like really long stems on my MTBs too, full on XC position, with the exception of the one I have with shifters/brakes on barends - I put a shorter stem with more rise on that one, much like I would if I was putting drops on it.
Hmmm. Idk, I had the same stem on my Waterford and it's just so comfortable. I don't feel like an ape hanging over the front wheel. I don't know anything about mountain bikes.
