Yep i bought them 13 plus years ago and expected them to be like new when I bought them. They are not steel but fibers that time took over and made the fragile.

It is up to the rider to check his gear..the bike can't say HEY BUD , I NEED NEW STRAPS. Remember you fail to do your job if the bike fails to be maintain... WE GET TOO COMFORTABLE NOT CHECKING GEAR!
just like not putting on a seatbelt.. when you crash or get in accident .it is YOU who is responsible for your and everybody's life with you. Driving or not!
