This weekend of rain played havoc with our racing schedule. The Festival of Speed at Hellyer was canceled and rescheduled for June 18th.
My wife registered for a race on Sunday, Dunlap, a flat 30K ITT in Davis, CA which is about 1.5 hours from our house. The weather forecast was iffy and the weathermen have not been exactly sharpshooters in predicting weather. We decided to pack up the car and drive there hoping for the best. When we left the house it was cloudy but dry streets. About 1/2 way there, the sky was pitch black and quite frankly we were on the lookout for funnel clouds and it was pouring rain. We arrived and the streets were damp but we had to park in a grassy field and drive through a muddy driveway. This just keeps getting better. Smart phones serve a useful purpose as I could watch doppler radar and at least there was no rain showing up in our area but we were surrounded by it.
My wife races and get 4th in the women's 3/4 and wins the women's 4. Her time would have podiumed in the men's Cat 5. That seems just wrong. And she did improve her time by 1:04 from the previous year.
I did not want to be hunched over a TT bike for 30K so I did some easy tempo riding on my road bike but not on the course. The area was very flat with fields of wheat on each side and the roads were straight. I basically cruised along about 20 mph.
On the way back, we hit rain again and the temperature was about 10 degrees colder at our house. We are definitely tired of this weather.
