Depends on your navigational skills and will to learn under pressure. It takes a few months as a rookie to get in good bike shape and learn the job, the initial learning curve and physical demands wipe out about 60% of those that try it, get past that and its gets easier. Most rookies dont know anything at all, so id say you will be ok if you apply yourself.A week or two wont even come close to giving you an idea of what the job is like really, it will be 3-12 months before you even know what you dont know and get in decent shape.Dont underestimate the physicality of the job, I know guys that race bikes and they will tell you you quite honestly messengering is tougher physically, the mileage can get relentless, there will be days when its 33 degrees and pouring rain and its like 11am and youve already done 35miles,your hungry, tired cause its thursday and your legs are wasted from the previous 200miles this week, and all you wanna do is warm up,dry off, and eat, but you cant cause your busy........these are the kind of days you must be able to deal with. But it takes awhile before you have the skills to even get in that position, a good dispatcher wont abuse you much at first till he/she gets an idea of how good you are.You wont get any of the premium work till youve earned a dispatchers respect either, get on their good side and be willing to put out fires for them and the job gets better.

I dont think its a bad idea really, but a couple weeks wont do much except let you know how bad of a rider you are right now, sorry, but im not gonna sugarcoat things, until youve been a messenger for awhile, chances are very good you arent much on a bike, just the way it is.Ive seen cat1/2's in alleycat races get brutalized by messengers.A big part of being a messenger is just getting in good enough shape to have the stamina for the job, hard to think straight, juggle runs, and go real fast when your always just trying to catch your breath and figure out where you are and what to do next.
