It's pretty easy but you'll likely have to replace those units with some separate shifters and brake levers.

I doubt there are any aftermarket lever arms that are made to retrofit those units. There aren't a great deal of levers available that are shorter than those but there are a handful of one-finger brake levers typically aimed towards the fixed gear and BMX crowds it seems.
