Hey 3speed, hope the storms missed you tonight- yikes it was scary for a bit.

In new bikes the '11 Salsa Casserole is, IMHO, just about perfect. The geometry is spot on for a sport touring bike.

Vintage - the trek 520 is not a bad choice, but you need to look carefully at the model years as the geometry - specifically the chain stay length - varied quite a bit, full on touring in some years. Also take a look at the catalogs, some of the other models have the same geometry as the 520 with different tubing and components. I think in '86 the 520 shared the same geometry as 4 other bikes, 400' 400t..... More cost effective than a 520 for sure.
