at the 50 km mark of a 600km randonee a brand new factory built wheel suddenly felt 'weird' as we approached a railway crossing for a passing train. Low & behold all the spokes were loose, and one of the nipples had fully unscrewed and was floating inside the rim. This was a first for me in rebuilding a wheel on the side of the road, all was almost lost when I dropped it in the pea gravel (never do that, hard, very hard to find). After getting it back together my build wasn't right, for about 10 km down the road it was loose again. This time I torqued the spokes and field trued the wheel, it wasn't perfect but was more than good enough to complete the ride (17,000' of climbing).
So if you must ***** out the shop, its a free country. But its not the end of the world and can be more than repaired to last.
