People forget about the "fun factor" when implying that only "racers" should ride carbon deep-dish wheels. On a typical ride, I can choose between seven wheelsets, but my favorite by far (when there are no wind gusts) is my Shimano C50. And I do not race. Those Shimanos have the perfect combination of stiffness and hub efficiency for me.

If it won't be a financial drag, then there is nothing wrong with buying carbon deep-dish wheels.
