Schwinn used integrated 8x3 rapidfire shifters on the Tourist (a Target bike with decent components other than the wheels).

None of this really matters as far as I am concerned, as the units you have will serve you well and are definitely an upgrade from the grip shifters.

no1mad, the Ergon grips are good. I would only switch shifters in your case if you are having troubles with unintended shifting with the grip shifters (like I had).
