I wrap a 1.5" wide strip of tube rubber around all my cyclometers, tight, fashioning a fastener of some kind of course. They're not Bontrager so I don't know if your base is large enough but if it is, it solves the problem. Kind of "Fred" maybe but if you do it neatly it looks natural and as a bonus seals the contacts from the elements.
