As the brake pads wear, I tighten it from time to time to compensate. This is usually done out on the road after braking and realizing the lever came too close to the bar for my comfort. I also like to use the barrel adjuster to fine tune it after I adjust or replace the cable.

With the adjuster I have right now, it binds and does not want to turn, or it catches the cable and that spins it back before I can set the lock nut.

Maybe I will just go to the LBS and see what they have.
