Glad you're enjoying your new ride stwebb! Hope it's the first of many.
About working on your own bikes...
I'm definitely in the opposite category...I don't trust anyone else's work nearly as much as my own. This has been the case before with my cars and is now also true with my bikes. It's just a feeling I have that I can learn enough and work on it better than anyone else could, so I don't mind working on it.
Working on my bikes actually gives me inspiration to ride more. Sometimes I go for a ride for the simple reason to see if a little tweak I made makes any difference. A lot of times I do notice a difference and it's a great feeling. Some of it is probably a placebo effect, but if it gets me riding more I really don't mind!
I'm definitely a tinkerer...once a day I'm shooting oil somewhere or cleaning something. Not necessarily because it needs it, but because the perfectionist in me is showing through...
