I want you to enjoy your bike and I want you to enjoy it for a long time. What I find is that most of those who buy department store bikes wind up having the bike hanging in the garage because they are hard to work on and they are difficult to ride. When you do trade in your GMC and get a decent bike store bike, I want you to send me a thank-you note.
You're right, most of the department store bikes are, at least those I've had anything to do with. Mainly because the cheap junk they put on them breaks or never works right in the first place. I haven't seen this to be the case with this one though. I ride mine about 130-150 miles a week, mostly commuting and some play - not a lot by some standards but not hanging in the garage either. For longer distances or more serious sport sure, better components and lighter bike would be my choice but for the purpose it's hard to beat.

I also wouldn't recommend anyone ordering it off the internet unless they felt willing and confident in getting the components adjusted (or installed right to begin with). I'd say the same for any bike ordered from the internet though ... and I had to go over the last two bikes I bought from our LBS also, getting the adjustments right. So that's kind of a non-objection from my perspective.
