For most people, cycling shouldn't be about spending money. It should be about getting out there and riding, and enjoying the experience. Plenty of amazing deals out there on older mid-level and better bikes. Knowing how to do your own repairs also really helps. Riding a "top shelf" bike from the '80s? Just avoid bike snobs...who wants to hang around with them anyway? Those guys are really annoying!
