Mafac levers can be found quite cheaply with just a bit of effort and patience, I'd just get a whole lever.
The only problem is that I just moved to Germany, and while eBay US has lots of them, Germany doesn't-- and shipping from the U.S. ends up doubling the price.
Now, if I could find a few old bike mechanics in France...
