Hi! I'm new. I'm relatively new to road cycling too, but I've been active with bicycles my entire life.

Anyway, I'm moving to Slovakia (kind of by Austria) at the end of the summer and I have to take my Trek 2.1.

Are the massive bike cases WORTH it? I can fit up an old bike box from the LBS nicely, I think, and put foam, etc in it so that it's similar to a Thule bike box (I'm an artist, it's what we do) for a heck of a lot cheaper. But will my bike make it in a box? We have to drive 8 hours or so to the airport to start, so there's the car (SUV) time too.

Any suggestions? Also, any suggestions on maybe switching to a triple for the mountains?
