Its ok to start off with something simple, not too complicated. If you decide to take bike riding to a next level, then you will eventually get a different bike. If you're not mechanical, let the local bike shop where you bought the Specialized do it for you. The more you ride, the more you will want to improve something or other. That means your pedal stroke. Then cadence, not the other way around.
