I just offered my anecdote just to show that individual anecdotes really mean nothing.

And yeah, I agree that sidewalk cycling can be safe depending on when and where it is done. I know areas where the sidewalk is wide and unbroken by driveways of any kind... frankly these sidewalks are far safer than riding on the adjacent 50+ MPH road.
