were you also planning to change axles on the 700c wheel to make it fit? or just squash the rear?

44x11 with 700x25 is a 105.5 gear - done with some decent resistance on the trainer - should cook the turkey in under 10 minutes

are you some massive trackie?
I've done ~15 hours on the trainer so far, so have some basis for the desired changes.

It is a fluid trainer, and resistance is based on speed. I'm using a 12-21 cassette and I can spin the 44/14 for a full hour and spin out the 44/12 for short efforts. I'm assuming I'm going to get stronger if I keep it up, so do want more room up top. I started with the mountain bikes 11-28 cassette, but the spacing between gears was too large (> 100W difference at slower speeds, > 150W at higher) and not worth the one fewer tooth.

As for dropouts, two cheap fender washers filled in the difference (and adjusted the limiters on the derailleur inboard a bit).
