Gene, I understand. I guess I am a bit in the midst of and often get stuck in this thought pattern where I see the place where BLs (as designed today, not talking bridges or special control lights, etc, just painted lanes) are, are the often places they least are needed (not that they don't help a little) and the places (intersections) that needs the most help for 'inexperienced' cyclist are places that no current BL design makes easier for learning cyclists, and can arguable (see above ) hinder developing good experience.

I don't ever see BLs as helping the inexperienced at managing traffic around intersections. But to be clear I don't consider special other facilties, such as bike bridges, addtional traffic light patterns, underpasses, etc. to be BLs and these type of facilities may have potential to help.

So a total solution is needed, both to help the inexperienced manage the links as well as the nodes of a network of routes - otherwise you are 'trapping' the inexperienced on the links.
