It's funny--when I started out riding I figured a century was some be-all, end-all thing that everyone should do and love. I found they got boring after a while. I have several under my belt and don't really feel compelled to do more. I might buck up and train for an Ironman at some point if my life ever allows it, so that would be 112, but for some reason the long distances just don't float my boat.
It can go in cycles, too.
I used to think nothing of doing 200km randonnees, and while 1200s and 1000s would take a bit more effort in planning and logistics, I was up for them as well. I think that at the time, it had more to do with achieving targets and awards than anything else.
But these days, I am happy doing a 100-miler a month, and use those rides to explore areas that I haven't ridden before. That keeps some of the boredom at bay.
