Brooks saddles are handmade and I suspect there are variations from saddle to saddle and face it no two pieces of leather are going to be exactly the same...unless you clone cows and even then I wouldn't be too sure. My best recommendation would to be to purchase from someone like Wallingford Bicycle Parts that has a very generous return policy. FWIW I have never had a problem with any of my Brooks/Ideale or Wrights saddles, most are very comfortable right out of the box and only get better with age.
