Some people have an irrational hatred for bikes and take advantage of any excuse to reinforce that belief. No, that doesn't excuse the behavior you saw but seriously, how often DO you see that?
I always get annoyed when cyclists flout the law by scooting through red lights or stop signs... even though I understand why they do it, especially when it doesn't matter (on the long end of a T intersection for example.
Honestly you need to remember I am also a cyclist. I just haven't ridden in a charity event. These people were running the stop sign (no cop there/ T intersection with vehicles coming), and then using the whole road, so motorists couldn't get down the road. I believe in
SHARING the road. I have had cars come within inches of me, but when I drive, I tend to give as much road to the cyclist as I can. This means if another car is coming, and I feel the road is too narrow, I will wait to pass.
These cyclists need to learn to share, not just keep it to themselves.
Oh and I will see this 2-3 more times this summer, maybe not the same level, but at least riding double down the streets. I live by most of these charity events that go to Cape Cod. Oh and I've seen this A LOT on my road by just random cyclists.
