If you're well rested, your glycogen should be all topped up anyway, and a last-minute gut-full of food isn't going to change that, and will just make you nauseous during the ride. That's my experience anyway.
I was a little hyperbolic with the engorged comment. I ate a little too much the night before but I think that the meal worked out well, especially combined with all the carb loading I had done in the days before the race. I was just a little uncomfortable for the first two hours, but after that, I felt fine. Had good energy most of the ride.
