1977 Peugeot UO8 Ten-Speed Restoration Project

I've used this excellent forum as a research tool for the past few weeks during my search for a vintage road bike to use as a commuter/around town bike. My search ended a couple of weeks ago with a very luck find. An older man in my neighborhood won an auction storage unit and had no clue what kind of bike he inherited.

This 1977 Peugeot UO8 ten-speed sat in storage for the past couple of decades and has the unique feature of having all original parts on it, with the exception of the tires and saddle. The paint, decals, and even the brakes pads, are all original and more than 34 years old. He sold me the bike for a great price and I immediately began getting it road worthy. I took on this restoration project to honor an iconic ten-speed of the ‘70s and bring it back to life.

I'm showing progress of the restoration on my web site for those interested in checking out more details and additional photos:

Here is the bike after Phase 1 of the restoration:

Coming up, I’ll be refurbishing and restoring the steering assembly as well as cleaning up the pedals and wheels. I’ve sourced and ordered a vintage Peugeot saddle and inner tube valve dust caps from the ‘70s as well as new replica tires to get the Peugeot UO8 ten-speed back to its original state as you would find it in a bike shop in 1977. Stay tuned!
