Digital Cowboy: It's not that I "don't understand"; it's that we have differing theories re: motorists acting out. You assert it's largely due to ignorance of the law, and I assert it's "dodgeball all over again" in the form of bullying. It'd be interesting to put this to the test; in the meantime, you, and I, can only make the best decisions we know how to make based on our experience, even if it might cause to make divergent decisions.



I'll grant you that poorly-designed bike lanes (meaning those that are poorly designed; not that a bike lane is so by definition) could cause such confusion as you describe and probably do more harm than good. I'm not "pro-infrastructure," per-se: I'm "pro" well-engineered infrastructure, and "anti" poorly-designed infrastructure.



Since you're from Tampa/St. Pete, here's an example where infrastructure could help: westbound Adamo Dr/Brandon Blvd, as it passes under I-75 is 5 lanes wide, with the right two being "exit only" for I-75. I do not desire to get on the interstate; neither do I desire to ride the shoulder and pray for a break in traffic at the last minute before exit. Thus, I ride in the right of the middle lane of a 5-lane westbound road, 50 MPH limit, and try to get to the other side ASAP.



A bike lane here would clarify to motorists (a) the right of bicyclists to use such a busy road, and (b) the appropriate position on the road.
