50x12 has been fine for me except in one race that had a 10 mile slight downhill with a stiff tailwind. I can spin a 50x12 up to 38 or 40 mph to get on someone's wheel on a descent but I can't pedal at 35 mph for 15 minutes. An 11 would have been fine and it's what I'll use this year for that race.
A calibrated weight makes a difference, not sure how important it is. Here's the numbers I came up with a 20lb weight and checked with a Park Tool DS-1 and the last one is with the 20kg certified weight. Probably close enough.

50/34 as shipped from Quarq
Old Slope:8.526550 (shipped)

50/34 - uncertified weight
New Slope:8.721183
* That looks bad. I question my first test results but posting anyway.

52/36 #1 - uncertified weight
New Slope:8.799944

52/36 #2 - certified weight
New Slope:8.799877
