Are today's patches really all that thick? The patches in the Park patch kit don't look all that thick to me.
Weight isn't an issue for me, as I don't race. On my Hardrock I have a set of Armadillos, on the stock MTB tires I do have a set of Mr. Tuffy's installed but they're so seldom on the bike as to still be practically new. I haven't upgraded the tires on my Seek 2 yet, but will be upgrading to a pair of Armadillos on it as well.
Although I might be upgrading them sooner than I had anticipated due to the fact that I have gotten two flats on the front tube already. One on my way back from my ride while pulling into a shopping center and the other shortly after leaving home to go out on a ride.
Fortunately I did the smart thing and purchased a spare tube as well as a patch kit when I was given the bike. So now I have two tubes with a patch on them.
