i agree. this is most likely the problem. non-beaded rims have a max inflation that is quite a bit below that of beaded tires. you either need new rims or new wheels, preferably 700c, altogether.

if you live in the bay area, pm me, i've got a set of 27" araya 1/ 1/4 w/o alloy rims with freewheel hub that i could let you have. i doubt i will be needing them anymore and would like someone to get some use out of them. they even have tires and tubes on them!

i would hate to see somebody dump a nice old miyata just because the wheels are lousy.
