I had this same issue with a used brooks saddle recently. I used some leather balm on it and really scrubbed it in with a shoe polish brush. Worked like a charm to clear up the smell. I put 2 more coats of leather balm on, but more gently. Looks great now, and doesn't smell like anything but leather.
