You have nothing to Fear. Except the peeling labels, I have read in a model magazine that better hobby shops have an adhesive designed to rebond them.
I have a set of Fir rims, non anno, ready to go into a project where the yellow, orange and red labels will be color co-ordinated with the bike graphics.
