I got yelled at by a Triathlete
This morning I went on a training ride to do a few laps of the course where I have a race on July 16th. I spotted 2 riders a ways up the road and I was slowly catching up to them. After about 3 or 4 miles I was about 15-20 feet back and announced that I was behind them to be courteous. The larger of the 2 riders (who are riding side by side) looks over to his friend and yells "ARE YOU SERIOUS?!". I continued to stay back a good 15-20 feet and did not pass because a hill was coming up and I did not want to pass them only to be passed right back up. I had no idea how fast or slow they really were. So at the top of the hill one of them takes off into a sprint and I gave chase. I remained to the far right and these guys were in the middle of the road or near the center line. They took turns sprinting out and I gave chase each time and caught them easily each time. After 5 times of them doing this I pulled up along side the "are you serious" guy and asked him if they were racing next week. His yelling reply was "...NO WE ARE REAL ATHLETES. WE ARE TRIATHLETES AND WE DO NOT NEED TO SUCK EACH OTHERS WHEELS TO GO FAST". My reply was "You two can follow behind my wheel for the rest of my ride, but I doubt you would be able to keep up". The 2 Triathletes then turned to the left on a different road and went their own way without saying a word. Now keep in mind that I was never even close to drafting these two. What is funny is I was on my hoods the entire time while they were diving down low into their aero bars most of the way. I kept on thinking about what I did to set this guy off for the rest of my ride, and I could not come up with anything. Is there really that much dislike between triathletes and road bike riders?
