Yeah, you are probably right. I did take a SunTour apart once that came to me attached to a pile of Nishiki Junk and soaked it in OA after putting grease on the bearing races. The cogs were left on for this. It came out pretty good, I am still using it today. Just because you can does not indicate that you necessarily should, especially in light of the cost of replacements.
