2011 Schwinn Madison sizing question: Small or Medium?

Hi everyone,

I would like to purchase the 2011 Schwinn Madison, but I am not sure if I fit better on a small or medium. Both feel pretty good to me at the store. This is my first bike, so I'm not experienced at recognizing bike comfort. They both felt great and the person helping me said either would work (he thought maybe small would be better). I did try to size myself using this:

http://www.competitivecyclist.com/za...LCULATOR_INTRO

And these were my results:

Measurements
-------------------------------------------
Inseam: 80
Trunk: 66
Forearm: 34
Arm: 65
Thigh: 58
Lower Leg: 51
Sternal Notch: 140
Total Body Height: 170

The Competitive Fit (cm)
-------------------------------------------
Seat tube range c-c: 51.8 - 52.3
Seat tube range c-t: 53.4 - 53.9
Top tube length: 54.2 - 54.6
Stem Length: 11.2 - 11.8
BB-Saddle Position: 68.6 - 70.6
Saddle-Handlebar: 52.9 - 53.5
Saddle Setback: 4.7 - 5.1

The Eddy Fit (cm)
-------------------------------------------
Seat tube range c-c: 53.0 - 53.5
Seat tube range c-t: 54.6 - 55.1
Top tube length: 54.2 - 54.6
Stem Length: 10.1 - 10.7
BB-Saddle Position: 67.8 - 69.8
Saddle-Handlebar: 53.7 - 54.3
Saddle Setback: 5.9 - 6.3

The French Fit (cm)
-------------------------------------------
Seat tube range c-c: 54.7 - 55.2
Seat tube range c-t: 56.3 - 56.8
Top tube length: 55.4 - 55.8
Stem Length: 10.3 - 10.9
BB-Saddle Position: 66.1 - 68.1
Saddle-Handlebar: 55.4 - 56.0
Saddle Setback: 5.4 - 5.8

The sizing of the Madison is as follows:

• Frame Size: XS, S, M, L, XL
• Effective Top Tube Length: 512, 531, 545, 560, 570mm
• Seat Tube Length: 545, 565, 585, 605, 625mm
• Standover Height: 30.7, 31.4, 32.2, 33.1, 33.9
• Seat Tube Angle: 76, 75.5, 74.5, 74, 74
• Head Tube Angle: 73, 74, 74.3, 74.5, 75
• Wheelbase: 957, 958, 963, 967, 971mm

According to the stickers on the bike, the small should fit a person between 5'3 and 5'6, the medium from 5'6 to 5'10. I am a 5'7 female with longer legs (long femur) and a 30.5 inseam. According to Schwinn sizing, I should get a medium, but the the person helping me thought small would be better. On the small frame, I had about 2-3 inch clearance above the tube, on the medium I had about 0.5 inches. I know that clearance doesn't matter though, but this is just to give you an idea of how I stood over the frames. On the medium frame, it was more comfortable when the handlebars were raised to the maximum allowed, so the seat and top handbars were about the same height. When I was on the seat, my toes could not touch the ground. On the small, I could get on the seat on tiptoes. It seemed overall lower. Any opinions would be great.

Thanks and sorry for this long topic!
