My road bike is a Specialized Roubaix, carbon. It hasn't exploded killing me and everyone around me. I figured with a Steel or Aluminum bike it should be OK. I'm 270lb and going down. I'm sure with the people that mash the cranks or going flying off curbs, etc that they are putting a lot more jolts to the bike than I ever would.

Now to get my next egg of $700 - $800 to build up my bike.

Scrod, the 2 bikes you put together are pretty much what has inspired me to try the singlespeed conversion first and now to actually build one up.
