Use the wire loops to tighten them every 30 minutes to an hour, that's why they're there. If you lack the upper body strength, do some weight training. Heck I used to carry a dime in my pocket to tighten the Huret shifters on my Raleigh Carlton. When I got my Ron Cooper with Campy NR I thought the loops were ingenious!
