Value of a 1987 Fuji Absolute?

Just about a week ago my dad got hit by a car while riding his bike, he's okay but the bike got messed up. So now we are trying to find out around how much is the bike worth, so the person that hit him accidently could replace it, or give him money in return so he could buy a new bike. Please let me know around how much you think its worth.
