It's a cat 5 race and you were OTB, so I am with shovel on this. Nothing was at stake, and therefore it just becomes a training ride.
The other rider was probably in the same situation as far as experience goes. If it was his third race, then he may be just as full of questions about this as you are. I'd not be all that quick to judge in this case.
