get your head out of your ass - we're trying to help. taking his words strongly and personally really does make you seem like a little kid.

anyways, aside from that - really, take the geared bike. i've been in sf for many, many rides and after a long day of work you'll really be glad you don't have to mash 73 gear inches and definitely not 80+. also take leg problems into consideration, as rolling on that kind of gearing can cause some serious long term injuries.

tubular tires won't be good when you're out on that ride and don't have any glue. keep the clinchers unless you're racing.

i know you really want to get into this fixed thing, and thats fine - keep the road bike though, 2 bikes opens up lots of freedom. a 44 chainring is great, it allows you to have a wide range of gearing without using different chains. 44/17 and 44/20 would seem smart.
