Good luck and a speedy recovery. Your concern for the ride-ability of the bike is a good sign - get back up on that 'horse' as soon as you are able.
I can commiserate (slightly) as I sustained a fair bit of damage to my knee in an accident years ago and the hardest part was not being able to ride for so long before and after the surgery (thank goodness for modern medicine). Now I use my bike as a way to keep leg-muscle strength up after the atrophy from being off it so long - not that any of us need an excuse to ride, but once you have healed you can use the bicycle as a physiotherapy tool. Something to look forward to!
I had the misfortune once to see someone hit by a car a foot-or-two in front of me (ironically, I was not hit because I was crossing the road fairly slowly due to the above mentioned injury) - it was at about half that speed... I can't imagine how getting hit at 30mph while on a bike would be - you're damned lucky to be alive in my estimation. Maybe you should buy a lotto ticket just in case that luck is still with you.
