I just got some help from this forum on buying a mixte.

After input, I decided on a Centurion as opposed to a Peugeot. My main criteria was size of frame. I need a big frame and found the Centurion in 57cm and the Peugeot at 58cm.

The Centurion was $160.

Now I need to fix it up.

It's most immediate need is new tires. The ones on it look like dried up old newspapers. They are 27 x 1 inch.

I'd like to replace them with something wider -- as wide as possible. What are my options?

The seller (who owned a bike store) told me he didn't think fenders would fit on this bike. If possible, I would like to add fenders and would like to know if it is a totally bad idea and if possible, what kind of torture to I have to under go to get them installed.

I think I would also like to put new stem on the front to raise the handlebars a bit. Seems like the one on it now is original, but is up all the way (which is not very far)
