Wearing "spandex" has nothing to do with fashion, it's what suits the purpose. You think cyclists started wearing it because they thought "gee, I bet I'd look great in spandex" or because you can't print sponsor logos on something else? These synthetics are best suited for the purpose. They wick moisture away from your body and allow it to evaporate, allowing you to be cooler. They support your muscles. I wouldn't want to even consider riding 50 miles in khaki shorts and briefs, with a soggy t-shirt hanging on my back. Ew?
The fashion slaves are the ones wearing baggy cycling shorts with spandex linings. They don't want to be seen as wearing spandex, they want to hide it. Sort of like closet *****exuals. Some are just very self-conscious because they are large, and if that helps them ride, it's a fantastic benefit. But really, who are the slaves of fashion? The people wearing clothing made to fit the activity, or people that don't want to be seen in spandex?
