Tire failures like the OPs are because of the cord breaking down. Looking at the photo's I'd guess there were glass cuts or maybe fractures from hitting sharp road hazards.
Heat triggered the ultimate failure by raising the tire pressure by up to 10%. But understand that this would not have been nearly enough to blow a healthy tire.
There's a difference between a triggering event and an underlying cause, so while the heat might have triggered the blowout, the cause was the prior damage.
Saying that heat caused the blowout, is like blaming the snow when an old out of shape 60 year old man has a heart attack while shoveling his driveway.
Now this I can agree with. I got a lot of miles out of those tires and was actually surprised at how well they held up. They did get quite a bit of abuse.
