Depends what you mean by meaningless. If you're interested in the group characteristics, then it is meaningful to you, but it doesn't tell you anything about yourself. To use an example I've used before in the context of determining MHR using a formula: it may be accurate to say the average male is 5'10", 180 lbs and wears a 42 regular suit (before anyone jumps on me, these are made up numbers just for the sake of the example). If you're interested in knowing these things about the average male, then these numbers have meaning for you, but they don't help you pick out the right suit size.
