Yes, I fell once, but I feel there were extenuating circumstances:

I live on a gravel road -- it's 3 miles to the pavement. Usually I put my road bike in the car and drive myself to the highway, but sometimes my wife will drop me off and then, later, come get me.

So one day 3 years ago I called her for a ride home. I waited awhile but didn't see her coming. The gravel road hadn't been graded recently, so there was a track where the cars travel that had little gravel on it. I decided to ride at least part way home.

I rode about 1/2 mile and then I saw my wife coming. I kept on pedaling, assuming she would stop when we met. As she was getting closer and closer, I was thinking that she was going to stop at any second. But no! At the last moment I had to veer off into the deep, loose gravel and over I went before I could get my feet free. She went on by, turned around and came back. Her comment was that I should have known that the road was too narrow for her to turn around where we met, so I shouldn't have expected her to stop (the only time my wife uses the phrase "I'm sorry" is when it goes something like this: "I'm sorry you didn't have the sense to get out of the way!).

Worry about clipless pedals? Not me (as least not normally). What I worry about is that our youngest kid will be going off to college next month, so there won't be anyone left to taste the food my wife gives me before I eat it.
