Maybe less then 30mins, then yes wear whatever you like to ride. Bibs make a huge difference.

Frankly no one will even look and laugh because you wear tight shorts, bibs, etc. That's the proper clothing for cycling and there is nothing wrong with it. It's their problem if they don't like it. Ask yourself, do you find it funny when you see a cyclist wears bibs/bike shorts? My guess is you don't or don't even care. But if you do, then I simply can't help.
