I just got in from my second of two centuries this weekend.
Yesterday I rode with the local club and we flew (well, it was fast for me) through the first 80 kms at 26 km/h. I headed off on my own to finish, and slowed the pace a bit, but it still ended up being my fastest century this year. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great ... as usual this year ... and it rained just about the whole time. When I got in I was completely and utterly soaked from head to foot.
So ... hot shower, warm clothes, good night's sleep ...
And I was on the road for the second one this morning. The ride didn't start the way I had in mind ... I got away 30 minutes late, it was pouring rain (again), and then about 8 kms up the road, I flatted. I spent the next 20 minutes sitting on the side of the road changing my wet, muddy, and greasy tire, in the rain, while a steady stream of cars when by splashing me with water from their wake. I almost turned around and went home right there and then. However, I continued on, and the rain stopped after a couple hours and it got relatively nice out (overcast, occasional drizzle, occasional bit of sunshine and about 18 degrees).
The second one was quite a bit slower than the first, and felt tough for some reason, but kept at it and made it around.
The only thing is ... my quads are killing me now!!!
