I had done the coffee run in the rain with all me mates the day before, and months of accumulated salt in the helmet was dripping into my eyes during the race like a nice combination of acid and razorblades. Stopped just before the outbound turn to rinse it out and abandoned. Duh: what was I thinking? It was a handicap. All I had to do was wait for A Grade to catch up and hitch a ride with them.
